Jan 20 to Feb 02 - Day 75 to 88 - Mossel Bay to Onrus

Robert is getting closer and closer to Cape Town and the kids are counting the sleeps! Yesterday we had reached "2 sleeps left until Daddy comes home (for a few days)", which then got changed into 4 sleeps as the weather is once again not playing along...

Day 20 - 26/11 - Pennington

8 hours of paddling and 61 km done! For the first time today, Robert did some proper surfing with the Pomar Bear! He even reached a speed of 25 km/hr surfing the waves! Quite different to yesterday's 3km/hr speed!!! Tonight Robert is absolutely finished!...

Day 3 - 09/11 - 20 km South of Sodwana

I spoke to a very tired Robert last night... So far this has been the toughest day for Robert. It took him over 10 minutes to get out of the surf in the morning and he went under the water a few times... Not such a great start before a long day of paddling....

Day 8 - 40 km done

Today Robert caught a big kingfish but as it was way too big he had to let it go... There is no need to waste such a big fish. Robert landed just before nightfall but realized too late that his landing place did not really have a beach as such... Just...

Day 9 - 15/11/14 Richards Bay

Eventhough the winds were supposed to be howling once again and becaude last night's camp was so precarious, Robert was up at 4 this morning and ready to go by 6... At that time, the winds were still reasonable... He decided to paddle up to Richards Bay...

Day 13 - 19/11 - 25 km North of Tugela River Mouth

53 km done today! 8 hours on the water and a hard paddle as there was no wind to push Robert one way or the other... It seems all the wind concentrated on making those fires bigger in Fish Hoek... Robert saw 5 turtles today and caught... Apparently this...

On Jan 13, Robert managed to leave Plett behind but found himself once again in counter currents and after 8 hours of paddling he had only done 31 km. The plan was to keep on going for another 30 km or so, which meant Robert would then have been able...

Day 24 - 30/11 - Mnyameni - Day 25 & 26 - 01 & 02/12 - Msikada

43 km done to reach the first stop in the Transkei. On day 24, Robert paddled for about 7 hours and the conditions were pretty good... He got to see dolphins twice and the first time they stayed with him for quite a while and seemed very interested in...

My internet is back and so I can update you all from my computer! Thank you Telkom! On day 16, Robert managed to rally Umhlanga and did a total of 46 km, paddling for 9 hours... According to him, he had a miracle launch in the morning as the shorebreak...

Robert has spent the last two days on the beach... The weather is still very hectic and the swell is absolutely huge, just as Windguru had predicted it with "abnormally large" waves... On Monday morning, the body of Mark Feather was discovered at Trennery's....

Today is a resting day as the weather report forecasts "Abnormally large wave conditions in the Agulhas current" from Port Alfred to Kosi Bay, so better safe than sorry and Robert will actually stay on the beach in Richards Bay until Wednesday morning...
