Day 21, 22 & 23 - 27, 28 & 29/11 - Margate

DSC_5054

On Thursday, Robert had planned to arrive in Margate as he knew he would have at least one rest day there and it would be a very handy place to be, with shops not far...

So he made it to Margate but he got caught in a severe storm. He even had to make a u-turn at some point as he realized the wind was actually pushing him in the wrong direction... In the end, instead of the 65 km planned, he did 71 in 11 hours!!! To say that he was finished when I spoke to him is a euphemism...

On a positive note, at some point, he got accompanied by a school of dolphins and they jumped all around the boat...

He then had to set up his camp in the rain and as we spoke he was feeling a bit trapped in his tent and was going to venture outside to try and find something to eat...

The storm had actually shaken Robert quite a bit. The barometer on his watch went up to 4... That does not tell us much but he was sure to expect quite a change in the air pressure, ie a big storm and he for sure got it...

The rudder got once again seriously bent...

Rudder a bit bent

Friday was a rest day and Robert started it by going to the shops to buy some bacon and eggs. He also bought some chicken pieces and made a real feast of it!

Thanks to Hugo's hard work, from Imtech, Robert's replacement satellite phone got delivered to him.

He also bought a big hammer that he is going to keep with him to fix the rudder as "it seems to be easily bent, but also easily fixed with the right tool"!

And all his electronic equipment got recharged by a nice lady... So after this Robert should be all set for the Transkei!

Camp Margate

Robert decided to take day 23 as a rest day too, he was still feeling a bit tired this morning and so decided to take it easy...

Every night, Robert sets up his trip wire around his camp and just as well he does as last night he had a visitor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The alarm went off in the middle of the night and Robert jumped out of his tent armed with his torch... He found a guy who pretended he was just walking around... Yeah, right!!! He then went away and Robert went back to sleep... Hopefully no one will visit tonight!

Tomorrow Robert will tackle the Transkei, he is very excited as it was so beautiful last time!
