Day 11 & 12 - On the beach- Richards Bay 17 & 18 November

Ze Face and ze look...

Robert has spent the last two days on the beach... The weather is still very hectic and the swell is absolutely huge, just as Windguru had predicted it with "abnormally large" waves...

On Monday morning, the body of Mark Feather was discovered at Trennery's. Mark had taken part into a surfski race that tragically ended very badly for him. As told Robertabout it and read him the articles found on the web, Robert realized that he had been to school with Mark, he had even broken his collar bone trying to tackle him at rugby... Our thoughts and condolences go to Mark's family...

Downwind

As Jason, our favourite chiro, commented on yesterday's page, "this is not a race", so Robert will stay put up until he can actually paddle, even if it takes him 6 months to reach Cape Town. Those are his words and I will certainly hold him onto that! He actually witnessed the Police trying to get out at sea, struggling into the surf before eventually capsizing... I get seasick just looking at the photo...

The rest has been needed anyway and it has given his hands a chance to heal a little bit and so has his lip sore. The sore on his lip is the same as the one he had on the previous trip and we assume it is caused by the sun eventhough Robert uses a very strong sunscreen...

Hand

Today Robert has managed to fix the rudder very nicely and he says it should work even better than it did before, let's hope so!

Tregoo, your products are fantastic! Robert had caught some nasty waves and he was seriously worried the solar panel could have got damaged, but no, it is in perfect working order and I certainly am greatly thankful for that!!

Civilization means we have been able to talk to one another via cellphone which makes things much easier, as we do not have to worry about the amount of time we spend chatting! It also allowed Robert to send lots of photos that you can admire...
