Another solo kayak expedition by Robert Hewetson
22 novembre 2014

Day 14 & 15 -20/11 & 21/11

My internet is not working at the moment so I am updating this blog from my phone which is not ideal... Telkom is working on the problem but it could last... Robert has had two very tiring days, paddling in a reverse current... On day 14, he did 25 km in 7.5 hours and on day 15, 32 km in 7 hours... He spent the first night at the Tugela river mouth and last night on Blythedale beach. On both days he tried to go out far at sea to catch the Agulhas current but did not manage to find it so it has been hard paddling! Robert has also caught some very big waves but I am pleased to report that the Polar bear has handled them very nicely... Robert was worried the Gecko, the big power pack from Tregoo was dead as he could not recharge his electronic equipment. So he decided to open it up and realized a wire was no longer connected so he reconnected it and the Gecko is now fully alive and it charged beautifully yesterday even through the clouds... Robert has a routine every night... He lands and moves his boat to his camping place. He then switches on his little stove and sets up his tent, then he makes himself a nice cup of coffee and eats one of those yummy energy bars... Then he fills up his kettle and brews two cups of rooibos. He then tries to catch a fish from the beach and can relax... He fishes until he is starving and then eats his pemmican if he has not caught anything... He sometimes leaves his fishing line in the water for the night...

Go Robert! Following your every paddle stroke avidly. Wonder why the Polar bear was not named "Pemmicanoe". All the best regards.
